In July 2019 the Spirit Orcas swam a waterway known as Gunboat Passage near Waglisla (Bella Bella) in the heart of the traditional territory of the Heiltsuk Nation. The region is also known as the Great Bear Rainforest.

The waterway is active with sea life including orcas and humpbacks.

The Spirit Orcas swam between 20 and 25 kilometres in water ranging from 14 to 18 Celsius. During their swim the encountered some strong currents and strong winds.

Swimmers included Cheyenne Furlong-Goos, Dixon McGowan, Drew Sabourin, Maria Sharock, Ben Vanlierop, Aly White.
