Everyone is capable of achieving something great!

The Spirt Orcas are a community of adults with intellectual disabilities who believe in possibilities. For much of their lives these incredible athletes have been told no or that’s not possible. As their coach I have turned “NO” onto its head and shifted it to “your ON!” I did this by asking one simple question – “How can I help?”Coach Susan

Who are the Spirit Orcas

  • Accepting others for who they are
  • Respecting each-other’s feelings and boundaries
  • Treating others the way we want to be treated
  • Giving back by helping others in our community

Guiding principles

  • Hard work
  • Respect for each other
  • Honesty
  • Kindness
  • Freedom of choice
  • Care for self and others
  • Give back what you receive

The Spirit Orcas live in the traditional territory of the  Lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples (Victoria) on Vancouver Island Canada and train in the Salish Sea – home to J, K and L orca pods. The team is named in honour of the orcas that live in that waters where the Spirit Orcas swim.
